Michael Tarris

Mindfulness | Meditation | Buddhism Program Coordinator

Michael Tarris serves as All Souls’ Mindfulness | Meditation | Buddhism Program Coordinator. He holds a Master’s in Fine Arts from Western Illinois University. Michael provides administrative, logistics, and communications support for the MMB Program, arranges guest teacher visits and Sanctuary Sounds events, and leads programs throughout the year.

Michael’s journey in Buddhism began in 2010, as an exploration of the notion of ‘Higher Power’ in his personal journey in recovery from substance use disorder. Eventually his exploration led to intensive Dharma training with Dzogchen Khenpo Choga Rinpoche, a Dzogchen master in the Tibetan Nyingma tradition, blending the training of the Longchen Nyinthig and Chittamatti ‘Mind Only’ styles.

Michael has held both Refuge and Bodhisattva Vows since 2014. His deeply held Dharma aspiration to help alleviate the suffering of beings, especially those who struggle with trauma and addiction has also led him to become Credentialed as a New York State Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor.

“May the exploration of my own practice, in my role here at All Souls, be a condition that creates meaningful opportunities for our community members to explore contemplative practices and deepen their own spiritual journeys. May All Beings Profoundly Benefit. Sarwa Mangalam!!”
