Ukrainian Music Initiative’s mission is to elevate Ukrainian classical music to its rightful place in the Western canon through performance and education. INTRODUCTIONS features the musicians of the ensemble – contralto Vira Slywotzky, cellist Valeriya Sholokhova and pianists Pavlo Gintov and Margarita Rovenskaya – performing their favorite chamber works from the Ukrainian classical repertoire. This sampling showcases the breadth of two centuries of composition, concluding with works by living composers who have managed to craft music of incredible beauty, light and hope while grappling with the devastation of their homeland and way of life.
