Friday Soup Kitchen NYC

For forty-five years, our mission has remained to feed our hungry neighbors with the dignity and respect they deserve. Especially today, when Covid, rising inflation and diminished government funding have led to one in five New Yorkers needing help with basics like food. Every Friday, we prepare, assemble and distribute hundreds of hot, nourishing lunches which might include chili and rice, fresh fruit, a pastry or sweet, fresh bread and a bottle of water. Guests line up outside the 80th Street entrance and are greeted with smiles and encouragement by our volunteers, some of whom are congregants of All Souls. All who come to Friday Soup are welcome, no matter their circumstances. We are a community building community.

We’re Here to Help

Friday Soup Kitchen NYC can only exist because of the corps of volunteers who give their time, energy and love to making and serving meals every week. Some help with cooking our entrée, and some with prepping the donations we receive from neighbors like Eli’s, Butterfield, Levain Bakery and Trader Joe’s. Others assemble the meal into containers, and still others form a packing line to put everything together, ready for distribution. It’s hard work, but so rewarding when a meal brings a smile to a guest’s face!
