Support choice at the end of life
Join fellow UUs throughout NY in urging state lawmakers to enact the NY Medical Aid in Dying Act, known as MAiD. All Souls members advocating for the legislation will offer information and ready-made postcards for you to send your state lawmakers after services on April 28th and May 5th. Now legal in 10 states and DC, MAiD would give a terminally ill, mentally capable adult with a prognosis of six months or less the option to request, obtain and take medication to die peacefully in their sleep and when they choose. Model after Oregon’s Death With Dignity Act, the NY MAiD Act (S2445a/A995a) is supported by 70% of NY voters in recent polling, as well as the NYS Bar Association and the Medical Society of NYS, plus a growing number of medical, legal, religious groups and policymakers. To convince elected officials in Albany to act in support this year, demonstrable support from the public is urgently needed.
