Dharma Study Group

The Dharma Study Group is a drop-in group–you are welcome to attend once or as many times as you like. We will explore basic teachings of Buddhism using both a philosophical and, more importantly, a practical, approach. We will first study Bhikkhu Bodhi’s In the Words of the Buddha, so that we acquire a strong foundation in core teachings. If this all goes well, subsequently we will use this foundation to study important Mahayana texts like the Heart Sutra and the Diamond Sutra. We will be doing a close reading of the texts, paragraph by paragraph and line by line when necessary. The class will be very interactive. We’re in no rush. What is most important is that everyone be comfortable with the material and make progress in their own way.
Harry Miller is a member of All Souls who has studied Buddhist meditation for 45 years. Harry was a student of the renowned Zen teacher, Chan Master Sheng-yen for 30 years. He is a docent and leads Dharma Study groups at the Rubin Museum. He teaches meditation and philosophy at the Chan Meditation Center in Queens, where he is a board member.
