Adult Education: Children and Families in Appalachia

November 10 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am EST

Connie has lived in rural Northwest North Carolina for 37 years, teaching in the College of Education at Appalachian State University for 31 of those years. She took two year-long sabbaticals to teach in rural low-income schools and based on the second experience wrote The Lydia Year: Learning from Pre-kindergarten Children in Rural Appalachia. Reading Kingsolver’s book Demon Copperhead, Connie was constantly reminded of the children and families with whom she worked. Come hear about her experience and life as it relates to our Big Read.
