SUMMARY:Heart and Tradition (Ages 6-12)
DESCRIPTION:We are standing on the side of love\, hands joined together as hearts beat as one. Emboldened by faith\, we dare to proclaim we are standing on the side of love. \n— Hymn 1014 in Singing the Journey \nIn February\, we will offer an art class celebrating two traditions – Lunar New Year and Mardi Gras! Mardi Gras\, also known as Shrove Tuesday or Pancake Day\, is a festival on the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday and refers to the old custom of consuming all the fats in the home before Lent. Chinese New Year is a cultural and historic celebration observed in China\, signaling the beginning of spring and the start of a new year according to the Chinese lunar calendar. In this class\, children can create pieces inspired by either of the two traditions or a combination of both! Moreover\, we will also be making a unique project to celebrate Valentine’s Day. So\, join us for a fun-filled and creative experience that embraces the spirit of different cultures and traditions! \nContact Director of Education\, Dr. Chris Rogutsky\, for more information. \nREGISTER A CHILD

SUMMARY:Building Neuroinclusive Spiritual Places
DESCRIPTION:In recent years\, the Neurodiversity Paradigm has gained increasing visibility\, but what exactly is it\, and how can it be incorporated into spiritual programming and development? This talk will provide an overview of the Paradigm\, specifically focusing on autistic needs and perspective. \nWe will take a strengths-based approach to understanding what it means to be autistic and the differences and difficulties that can arise\, including cognitive\, sensory\, and social challenges. Additionally\, we will explore often overlooked groups within the autistic population\, including those who were assigned female at birth\, are BIPOC\, those whose first language isn’t English\, and/or are members of the LGBTQIA+ community. We will discuss the difficulties these groups may face and how to provide adequate support. Finally\, we will explore the role of autistic people in spiritual life and how to create inclusive environments. Join us for a thought-provoking discussion on this important topic. \nKae Peterman will facilitate this talk. Kae (they/them) is an autistic\, nonbinary\, trans-ADHDer currently getting a dual Masters in Social Work and Public Health from New York University. They have worked on multiple community organizing projects and advocate for trans and neurodiverse rights. In their free time\, they enjoy singing\, meditating\, and playing board games. \nContact Director of Education\, Dr. Chris Rogutsky\, with any questions. This is part of our Adult Education program – click here to see our full list of Adult Education offerings. \nRSVP

In this series\, we will be presenting various plays that look at social justice issues from different viewpoints. In the first session on 12/3 will read through the work. The second session 1/7 will continue with our reading and then discuss (ideally over a socially curated adjacent event). Registrants will be furnished a copy of the work. In these two sessions\, we will be reading and discussing The Grown-Ups by Skylar Fox and Simon Henriques \nRSVP HERE \nSYNOPSIS: \nFollowing a group of camp counselors trying to mold the leaders of tomorrow when tomorrow is looking bleaker and bleaker\, The Grown-Ups explores the traditions that change us\, what it takes for us to change them\, and how to change yourself when you’re hopelessly\, tragically not prepared for this.
