SUMMARY:Voices at Work: All Souls Open Choir Rehearsal
DESCRIPTION:This year\, we’re offering another way for you to hear the All Souls choir in action! Every second Wednesday of the month\, our choir rehearsals will be open for the public. The All Souls Choir is an auditioned sanctuary choir made up of professional and volunteer singers led by Alejandro Hernandez-Valdez\, Director of Music and Trent Johnson\, Assistant Director of Music. \nAt rehearsal\, you’ll hear music in all stages of the rehearsal process. Sometimes we’re sight-reading\, which is reading through a piece of music for the first time. In this stage\, our focus is learning notes and rhythms. Sometimes we’re looking at a piece for the second\, third\, or fourth time. In each subsequent rehearsal\, we focus on tightening the ensemble sound and musical expression. The final stage is performance in Sunday worship or Musica Viva NY concert! Music is a vital part of our spiritual world at All Souls – come get a glimpse of the behind-the-scenes rehearsal process! \nSome sessions will have a pre-rehearsal talk about the music being prepared – specific dates coming soon!

DESCRIPTION:You’re invited to a live performance of Mississippi Summer by Art Feinglass! \nThis dramatic play about the 1960’s civil right movement centers on the friendship between Stokely Carmichael\, the charismatic SNCC leader who launched the Black Power movement\, and a young Jewish volunteer from New York who joined the struggle against racism. The play runs 90-minutes and is suitable for children over the age of 12. Tickets are pay what you wish\, but we recommend a contribution of $20. This can be paid by check\, card\, or cash at the door. \nThe play is based on the playwright’s personal experience as a civil rights worker in Jackson\, Mississippi in 1965 and on the journal he kept at the time. Mississippi Summer had a successful run in Seattle and at The Lambs Club in New York.

The service will be both in-person and online! \n \nSarah Diamant was born in London\, U.K. and lived in Kenya\, Italy and South Africa before coming to the U.S. in 1983. Her diverse background has informed her commitment to inclusivity in her spirituality\, life-view and professional pursuits. Sarah has worked in for-profit and not-for-profit settings. She was associated with the Jewish Theological Seminary for three decades as a PhD graduate in Biblical Studies as well as in the roles of instructor\, librarian and member of the administration. \nSarah received training as a chaplain at New York Presbyterian Hospital and currently works as a Jewish and Multifaith staff chaplain in the NYP system. She is also in private practice offering one-on-one and group spiritual direction and life coaching. In her spare time\, Sarah loves to sing\, write poetry and make art. DESCRIPTION:This year\, we’re offering another way for you to hear the All Souls choir in action! Every second Wednesday of the month\, our choir rehearsals will be open for the public. The All Souls Choir is an auditioned sanctuary choir made up of professional and volunteer singers led by Alejandro Hernandez-Valdez\, Director of Music and Trent Johnson\, Assistant Director of Music. \nAt rehearsal\, you’ll hear music in all stages of the rehearsal process. Sometimes we’re sight-reading\, which is reading through a piece of music for the first time. In this stage\, our focus is learning notes and rhythms. Sometimes we’re looking at a piece for the second\, third\, or fourth time. In each subsequent rehearsal\, we focus on tightening the ensemble sound and musical expression. The final stage is performance in Sunday worship or Musica Viva NY concert! Music is a vital part of our spiritual world at All Souls – come get a glimpse of the behind-the-scenes rehearsal process! \nSome sessions will have a pre-rehearsal talk about the music being prepared – specific dates coming soon!
