SUMMARY:Women's Alliance May Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Kristin Elliott\, Author. A graduate of Wellesley College\, who enjoyed 40 years working in Corporate America\, in a variety of advertising\, public relations and marketing positions. In retirement\, she has taken up creative writing and photography and become an author. To date\, she has published three books including; a children’s photo story\, “IN SNEAKERS: The Munchkin Cat whose Every Day is an Adventure” and “YOU ALL LOOK ALIKE\, A Family Memoir” which forms her topic for today’s presentation. \nWhat’s Special About a Family? – How I wrote a Memoir\n“YOU ALL LOOK ALIKE”\, Kristin Elliott’s memoir\, tells the story of growing up on Boston’s North Shore in the 50s and 60s capturing the optimism following World War II\, when a family of six dared to start a greeting card company with little funds and experience. Elliott explores the history of Beverly\, Massachusetts\, from its colonial era association with witchcraft to being the “birthplace of the American Navy.” The youngest of four\, with the card company named for her\, Kristin recounts her youth with poignancy and wit\, reminding us all of what’s special about every family. \nCome join us to dwell in the process of weaving memories into a memoir.\nBring your bag lunch.\nCoffee\, tea and dessert are provided.\nAll are welcome!

SUMMARY:Transforming Our Suffering
DESCRIPTION:Join us for our weekly Buddhism & Mindfulness program\, Transforming Our Suffering. This group meets every Thursday at 10 am. The program is led on first Thursdays by Rev. Pamela Patton and other Thursdays by our wonderful Community Meditation Leaders. \nZOOM LINK \nPassword: Peace \nWe are currently reading Radical Acceptance: Embracing Your Life with the Heart of a Buddha by Tara Brach. \n \nIn our current times of global crises and spiking collective anxiety\, Tara Brach’s transformative practice of Radical Acceptance offers a pathway to inner freedom and a more compassionate world. \nThis classic work now features an insightful new introduction\, an exclusive bonus chapter\, and additional guided meditations. \n“Radical Acceptance offers us an invitation to embrace ourselves with all our pain\, fear\, and anxieties\, and to step lightly yet firmly on the path of understanding and compassion.”—Thich Nhat Hanh \n“Believing that something is wrong with us is a deep and tenacious suffering\,” says Tara Brach at the start of this illuminating book. This suffering emerges in crippling self-judgments and conflicts in our relationships\, in addictions and perfectionism\, in loneliness and overwork—all the forces that keep our lives constricted and unfulfilled. Radical Acceptance offers a path to freedom\, including the day-to-day practical guidance developed over Dr. Brach’s forty years of work with therapy clients and Buddhist students. \nWriting with great warmth and clarity\, Tara Brach brings her teachings alive through personal stories and case histories\, fresh interpretations of Buddhist tales\, and guided meditations. Step by step\, she shows us how we can stop being at war with ourselves and begin to live fully every precious moment of our lives.
