DESCRIPTION:No Kings is a nationwide\, nonviolent day of action to defend democratic norms and reject authoritarianism. Organizers have 2\,000 coordinated events across all 50 states. The goal is to get 10 million people to turn out\, a number that no one can ignore. \nThis is a MARCH only\, not a rally\, and it is sponsored/endorsed by many organizations\, including the New York Civil Liberties Union\, Indivisible\, Mobilize\, Unitarian Universalists Side with Love\, Gray Panthers NYC and others. It will start at 11:00 am on Saturday October 18th in Duffy Square at Broadway and 47th Street. The march route is 1.6 miles south on 7th Avenue to 14th Street. These nationwide marches are timed as a counter-declaration to the military parade planned in Washington\, D.C.\, as a presidential birthday celebration. The NYC March is scheduled for 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.\, starting at Bryant Park. You can sign up for the No Kings March\, sponsored by the Hands Off coalition (including Indivisible and 50501) [HERE]. \nSouls in Service will be hosting a poster-making session from noon to 1:00 p.m. in the Ware Room (all materials provided). During Coffee Hour on March 9\, members of the SIS Committee and NYUUJ will offer updated campaign information and postcards for your completion to send your state representatives. \nThe new legislative season includes new bill numbers and many newly-elected officials. Demonstrable support for MAiD is critical. MAiD is a right in 10 states and DC. It would allow a terminally ill\, mentally competent adult with 6 months or less to live the option to obtain and take medication assuring a peaceful death when and if they chose.

DESCRIPTION:Calling all knitters and crocheters! Beginners and pros! Introducing the All Souls Knitting Circle to to benefit the guests of Monday Night Hospitality and Friday Soup Kitchen. The goal is to make as many handmade scarves and hats as possible that will be handed out at the two meal services this winter. You can knit by yourself – or join us for “group knits” in the Ware Room. We’ll supply instructions AND YARN!! Bring your needles to first meeting and pick out some yarn. Please contact Carole Weiss or Christine Goodwin with questions. \nThe plan is to make as many handmade scarves and hats as possible – several hundred if we’re lucky\, that will be handed out at the two meal services this winter. Friday Soup started last summer and with just a handful of crafters made nearly 100 scarves and hats. With everyone at All Souls involved we know we can do even better making hats\, scarves\, even mittens. Kick-off Meeting: Tuesday\, July 16\, 5:30 P.M. in the Ware Room. DESCRIPTION:Support choice at the end of life \nJoin fellow UUs throughout NY in urging state lawmakers to enact the NY Medical Aid in Dying Act\, known as MAiD. All Souls members advocating for the legislation will offer information and ready-made postcards for you to send your state lawmakers after services on April 28th and May 5th. Now legal in 10 states and DC\, MAiD would give a terminally ill\, mentally capable adult with a prognosis of six months or less the option to request\, obtain and take medication to die peacefully in their sleep and when they choose. Model after Oregon’s Death With Dignity Act\, the NY MAiD Act (S2445a/A995a) is supported by 70% of NY voters in recent polling\, as well as the NYS Bar Association and the Medical Society of NYS\, plus a growing number of medical\, legal\, religious groups and policymakers.  To convince elected officials in Albany to act in support this year\, demonstrable support from the public is urgently needed. \nAll Souls MAiD advocates will provide the materials – join us!

Reading sections of the book before each session is optional and encouraged. Each week will involve an overview of the chapters\, pair or small group work\, and discussion. \nLaura Cohen is a student at Union Theological Seminary studying Buddhism and Interreligious Engagement. She practices Zen Buddhism and has recently been exploring the vocation of chaplaincy. She is excited to be here at All Souls this year serving the Buddhism and Mindfulness community. \nNo need to register\, just show up!
