SUMMARY:Meditation & Teaching with Venerable Losang Gendun
DESCRIPTION:This event will be held in person as well as shared via Zoom. Please enter through the Garden and through the glass doors into Wiggin House. The front desk attendant can direct you to the correct room. This event requires registration through our partner dharma center\, Shantideva Center: https://shantidevanyc.org/idmt/ You can register for the whole term or individual sessions. \nThe fourth year marks the culmination of the IDMT training. Central to this year is learning to see how ordinary perception is produced by conceptuality—how the mind fabricates a solid and the suffering this creates. Recognizing these patterns is the first step toward releasing them. In their place\, practitioners train in pure view through the Kriya Tantric practice of the six deities. \nAbout Venerable Gendun: \nVenerable Losang Gendun’s path into Buddhist practice began in the late 1970s through encounters with contemplatives in whom a life of inner perfection and service had become wholly embodied — a Trappist monk\, and later a Theravāda abbot\, who between them set the course of a life dedicated to meditation. Before taking robes\, he worked across palliative care\, technology\, refugee organizations\, and management — a range of human experience that continues to shape his teaching. \nTaking robes as a Bhikṣu in the Tibetan tradition in 2006\, Ven. Gendun spent nine years in philosophical study at Nalanda Monastery in France\, with further training in India\, Nepal\, and Myanmar\, complemented by more than four years in solitary retreat working deeply with Tibetan sūtra and tantra alongside the Burmese Theravāda Forest Tradition. \nFor the past eighteen years he has taught Buddhist philosophy\, psychology\, and meditation internationally. The Buddha Project\, founded in 2023\, is in part a gesture of gratitude toward the legacy of his principal teachers\, Geshe Tengye and Lama Zopa Rinpoche — offering sustained guidance for serious meditators\, fostering dialogue between traditions\, and supporting scientific research into contemplative practice.

SUMMARY:Transforming Our Suffering
DESCRIPTION:Join us for our weekly program\, Transforming Our Suffering. We are currently reading The Myth of Freedom and the Way of Meditation by Chogyam Trungpa. You are most welcome to attend whether or not you’ve done the reading. We start with a short meditation; the leader summarizes the chapter\, and then we have a discussion. Each session is standalone\, so you can drop in whenever you wish. The program is led on first Thursdays by Rev. Pamela Patton and other Thursdays by our wonderful Community Meditation Leaders. \nZOOM LINK \nPassword: Peace \nAbout the book: \nIn these collected lectures\, Trungpa Rinpoche explores the true meaning of freedom\, showing readers how preconceptions\, attitudes\, and even spiritual practices can become chains that bind them to repetitive patterns of frustration and despair. Here\, through his unique ability to express the essence of Buddhist teachings in the language and imagery of modern American culture\, Trungpa Rinpoche directly addresses the process of dissolving the barriers people often create and place between themselves and the rest of the world. \n

SUMMARY:Teaching & Practice with Venerable Losang Gendun
DESCRIPTION:Join Ven. Gendun following the Sunday morning service to dive deeper! \nTopic: “Hermits In and For the World” What does it mean to be fully awake to the suffering of the world — and to stay in it anyway\, out of love? Venerable Gendun will reflect on the role of a “bodhisattva”: not a distant saint\, but anyone who trains in generosity\, integrity\, patience\, energy\, focus\, and wisdom\, then brings that training into ordinary life. His sermon will explore how quiet contemplation leads to engagement with the world and love for all beings. \nAbout Ven. Gendun: Venerable Losang Gendun’s path into Buddhist practice began in the late 1970s through encounters with contemplatives in whom a life of inner perfection and service had become wholly embodied — a Trappist monk\, and later a Theravāda abbot\, who between them set the course of a life dedicated to meditation.

SUMMARY:Meditation & Teaching with Venerable Losang Gendun
DESCRIPTION:This event will be held in person as well as shared via Zoom and in-person in the Sanctuary.
