SUMMARY:Adult Religious Education: The Power of Community in Uncertain Times with Shelley Tupper
DESCRIPTION:In uncertain times\, community matters more than ever. Join Shelley Tupper on March 22 and April 19 for The Power of Community in Uncertain Times\, a research-informed conversation on connection\, resilience\, and well-being. \n\nIn a world that feels increasingly fast\, fractured\, and uncertain\, one thing remains constant: our need for human connection. Regardless of our age\, beliefs\, or life experiences\, we are wired for community. Research in Positive Psychology continues to show that meaningful connection is not a “nice to have\,” but a foundational element of well-being\, resilience\, and hope. All Souls has long been a source of community well beyond Sunday mornings. This spring\, through two engaging sessions in March 22nd and April 19th\, Shelley Tupper\, Practitioner in Positive Psychology\, will guide a reflective\, research-informed conversation on why connection matters so deeply\, how community strengthens us in challenging times\, and how we become more resilient and able to flourish when we don’t go it alone. These gatherings are designed to offer clarity\, inspiration\, and possibility along with practical ideas and simple tools you can carry into everyday life. Save the dates and join the conversation.

SUMMARY:Adult Religious Education: Tent of Nations and Apartheid-Free Communities | Hosted by Unitarian Universalists for Justice in the Middle East
DESCRIPTION:Join the All Souls Chapter of UUJME (Unitarian Universalists for Justice in the Middle East) for a conversation with Laura Brown-Lavoie about her most recent trip to the Tent of Nations\, an educational and ecological family farm southwest of Bethlehem\, Palestine. \nHear as well from UUJME leaders about the Apartheid-Free Communities movement\, a coalition of communities who pledge to work together to end Israeli apartheid. \nTent of Nations: https://tentofnations.com/ \nThe Tent of Nations’ mssion is to build bridges between people and between people and the land. Through creative resistance\, organic farming\, and educational programs\, we seek to transform despair into hope and promote understanding\, respect\, and sustainability. \nApartheid-Free Communities: https://apartheid-free.org/ \nThe Apartheid-Free network formed in 2022\, following the emerging consensus among the international human rights community that Israel’s treatment of the Palestinian people amounts to the Crime of Apartheid. Originally created by faith groups in North America\, the network currently includes congregations\, faith communities\, solidarity organizations\, non-profits\, campus groups\, businesses\, and more. Centered in North America\, we encourage communities throughout the world to join the network.

SUMMARY:Grains of Sand: A Film Screening
DESCRIPTION:Filmed over eight years\, Grains of Sand follows two artists and close friends—the filmmaker’s mother and mother-in-law—as they navigate their ninth decade of life. Through intimate conversations\, shared memories\, and creative expression\, the film weaves together a thoughtful and uplifting intergenerational portrait of aging. \nThis documentary is deeply rooted in Unitarian Universalist values and community. Filmmaker Sarah Goss’s mother\, Margot Campbell Gross\, is a central figure in the film and served as a UU minister for many years\, including an internship at All Souls. She continues her ministry as minister emerita at the Unitarian Universalist Church of San Francisco. \nFollowing the screening\, we will engage in an intergenerational discussion designed to open meaningful dialogue about aging—creating space to share thoughts\, hopes\, and fears across generations. \nWatch the film’s trailer HERE.

SUMMARY:How Do Religions Form? with Frank Ciulla
DESCRIPTION:What influences the process of religion formation and editing? Is there an evolutionary component to religion formation and practice that guides what ends up in a religion after it goes through an editing process? Using Abrahamic and Native religions\, this talk proposes a predictive model for religion formation and change over time as well as predict the direction of post-Christian\, “secular spirituality” movements. This is a two-part series on Sunday\, February 1 & 8.

SUMMARY:Adult Education: How Religions Elevate "Rules" for Survival
DESCRIPTION:Frank Ciulla will explain how certain secular rules and restrictions developed by societies were eventually elevated in certain religions. These rules became the “instructions from a god or a prophet” but their secular\, evolutionary effect was to increase the survival of both the individual and society. These rule sets can overgo “cultural selection” and certain practices and religious ideas are propagated and start to show up in multiple new religions. Join us for this discussion of the intersections of religion and secularism!

SUMMARY:Adult Education: Connecting and Healing with Ancestors
DESCRIPTION:In this session\, Laura will invite participants to reflect on the idea of ancestors. Who are “the ancestors”? How do they affect the lives of those of us who are still living? How can we bring healing for our families from the burdens of the ones who came before us? The talk will be informed by Laura’s work as a practitioner of ancestral lineage healing through the Ancestral Medicine Network\, an international web of ritualists who offer culturally-sensitive entry points for people who wish for connection and well-being with their ancestors. You can read more about her work at elastic-portal.space.

SUMMARY:Junk Journaling Workshop
DESCRIPTION:A junk journal is a personalized book made primarily from found and recycled materials. It serves as a creative way to collect and record memories\, thoughts\, ideas\, and inspiration.
