SUMMARY:Philosophy East and West with Rev. Dr. Wayne Arnason
DESCRIPTION:How do Western and Eastern philosophical insights differ\, intersect\, or match? Wayne Arnason has been absorbing insights into these questions contained in a book titled The Monk and the Philosopher by Jean Francois Revel and Mathieu Ricard: a conversation between a father and son deeply both deeply versed in western and eastern philosophy. \nThis program is in partnership with the All Souls Mindfulness | Meditation | Buddhism program and will include one or more brief periods of meditation as part of the exploration in discussion. \nParticular chapters of this book will be a resource for each discussion but reading the entire book is not necessary. \nJoin us three Mondays in November! Nov. 9\, 16 and 23 at 10 AM – 11 AM on Zoom. This 3-part series will run instead of our regular Meditation & Discussion 10 AM session. The Zoom link is the same: \nZoom link \nMeeting ID: 930 1479 8870 \n\nRev. Dr. Wayne Arnason is a lifelong Unitarian Universalist with a 40 year career of service in UU congregations and institutions. Rev. Wayne served in two long-term parish ministries: from 1984-2000\, the Thomas Jefferson Memorial Church in Charlottesville\, Virginia ; from 2000-2016\, with his wife the Rev. Kathleen Rolenz\, at the West Shore Unitarian Universalist Church . He retired from full-time ministry in 2016\, & lives in Charlottesville\, VA. Rev. Wayne’s personal spiritual practice is rooted in Zen Buddhism. He has served as President of the UU Buddhist Fellowship\, a continental network of UU Buddhist sitting and study groups.
