SUMMARY:Transforming Our Suffering
DESCRIPTION:Join us for our weekly Buddhism & Mindfulness program\, Transforming Our Suffering. This group meets every Thursday at 10 am. The program is led on first Thursdays by Rev. Pamela Patton and other Thursdays by our wonderful Community Meditation Leaders. \nWe are reading and discussing Creating a Life of Integrity: In Conversation with Joseph Goldstein – by Gail Andersen Stark (Author)\, Joseph Goldstein . You are most welcome to attend whether or not you’ve done the reading. We start with a short meditation; Pamela summarizes the chapter; Harry Miller reflects on the teachings\, and then we have a discussion (you can choose whether you’d like to go to a breakout room or stay in the main room for a larger group conversation). Each session is standalone\, so you can drop in whenever you wish. \nZOOM LINK \nPassword: Peace \nWe are reading and discussing Creating a Life of Integrity: In Conversation with Joseph Goldstein – by Gail Andersen Stark (Author)\, Joseph Goldstein . About the book: Creating a Life of Integrity is our personal trainer for strengthening our integrity muscles… As Joseph and Gail unpack the components of integrity—generosity\, virtue\, renunciation\, wisdom\, courage\, patience\, truthfulness\, resoluteness\, loving-kindness\, and equanimity—we discover each is a step on a path that transports us to an empowered place of clarity\, commitment\, and\, consequently\, more joy. As we strengthen and weave these qualities into our daily lives they become our trusted first response in a world that needs our integrity now. “Gail Stark\, in a voice that is intelligent\, witty\, and disarmingly candid\, recounts her year-long study with her teacher\, Joseph Goldstein\, of the integrity factors of personal and spiritual development. In so doing\, she firmly extends the line from the liberating teachings of the Buddha in the forests of India 2\,700 years ago into the middle of business venues in the twenty-first century. Every minute of every day\, given mindful attention\, becomes an integrity choice. Undertaking this practice\, as laid out here\, is demanding and thrilling. We can lead worldly\, engaged lives and be happy.” — Sylvia Boorstein\, author of Happiness Is an Inside Job

SUMMARY:Mindful Eating: Health\, Ethics\, and Environmental Justice with Fourth U
DESCRIPTION:This two-part  series\, a collaboration between the All Souls NYC Food Matters Study Group and Fourth Universalist Society\, explores Mindful Eating as both a personal health practice and a form of ethical and environmental engagement. Grounded in values central to Unitarian Universalism and many other faiths and ethical traditions\, the series invites participants to consider how everyday food choices can nourish our bodies while also promoting justice for people\, animals\, and the planet. \nAcross two evenings\, we will explore mindful eating from complementary perspectives: first\, through the lens of personal health and well-being\, and then through the broader impacts of our food systems on climate\, ecology\, and social equity. Each session combines storytelling\, expert perspectives\, and facilitated discussion\, with ample time for questions and shared reflection. Participants are encouraged to explore practical\, compassionate next steps toward a more mindful\, plant-forward approach to eating—at whatever pace feels right. \nSession Details\nPart 1: Mindful Eating for Personal Health\nThursday\, February 26 | 7:00 pm\nSpeaker: Clare Parme Miller\, MS\, RD\, CDN\, Registered Dietitian Nutritionist\nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/j/82438610752 \nThis session focuses on mindful eating as a tool for greater awareness\, balance\, and health—helping participants reconnect with their bodies and their relationship to food. \nPart 2: Mindful Eating for the Planet\nThursday\, March 5 | 7:00 pm\nSpeaker: Rev. John Gibb Millspaugh\, Executive Director\, Unitarian Universalist Animal Ministry\nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/j/82438610752 \nThis session explores how food choices intersect with environmental sustainability\, animal welfare\, and global justice\, and how mindful eating can be a meaningful response to ecological crises. \nThis event is hosted on Fourth Universalist’s Zoom\, please visit their website for additional information [HERE].
