SUMMARY:Coming of Age (Ages 13-15)
DESCRIPTION:This unique program is designed to help young people explore who they are\, what has shaped them\, and what they stand for. Through the use of visual art as a vehicle of expression\, participants will delve deeper into their inner selves and connect with their spirituality. \nThis is our “Rite of Passage” year-long curriculum for teenagers. The program will culminate in a special event in the spring\, where participants will showcase their artwork and share their experiences with family and friends. We believe this program will be a transformative and empowering experience for all participating. \nThis class will culminate in a youth-led service on Sunday\, May 19th\, 2024 where students will share their experiences and personal credos. \nThis is a closed group. This 4-session course teaches you about the fundamental principles of sound and how it interacts with our environment and bodies. You will also discover how to tune into sound to enhance your mindfulness and develop meditation practices around sonics. Our expert instructor\, Jacob Rudin will guide you through various techniques and exercises to help you build your listening skills and deepen your understanding of the power of sound. \nJacob Rudin is a classically trained composer and pianist turned multi-flutist\, producer\, and sound-healing practitioner. Having created electronic and acoustic music in a wide variety of contexts since 2012\, Jacob works in both the healing and contemporary music worlds\, drawing on a rich sonic practice that involves experimental sound design\, field recording\, and virtuosic performances on a wide range of instruments. \nContact Director of Education\, Dr. Chris Rogutsky\, with any questions. DESCRIPTION:Join Rev. Barbara Becker\, author of Heartwood: The Art of Living with the End in Mind\, as we reflect upon our lives\, our mortality\, and the things that matter most. We promise a thought-provoking exercise… a memento mori for the modern age. No need to register\, just show up! \nBarbara Becker has dedicated more than twenty-five years to partnering with human-rights advocates around the world in pursuit of peace and interreligious understanding. She has worked with the United Nations\, Human Rights First\, the Ms. Foundation for Women\, and the Grameen Bank of Bangladesh\, and has participated in a delegation of Zen Peacemakers and Lakota elders in the Black Hills of South Dakota. She is an ordained interfaith minister who bridges the sacred and the secular\, and has sat with hundreds of people at the end of their lives. Barbara speaks on a wide range of topics\, including deepening our sense of meaning & spirituality and mid-career pivots. She lives in New York City with her interfaith family.
